Volunteer and Give Back | Vandana Bahl at Green Halo Scholars
In the spirit of our core values, SCS encourages staff members to participate in volunteer opportunities by giving back to the communities in which we live and work. The firm recognizes that participating in these activities supports and enhances our communities, and also enriches the lives of staff members.
Vandana Bahl volunteered recently at a Green Halo Scholars event, the non-profit she helped co-found after the loss of her son, Varun in 2015. Green Halo works with local high schools in the western suburbs of Chicago, that refer promising low-income or first generation seniors to them to help them get into and through college. Green Halo helps bridge their financial gap brining it down as close to $0 as possible by assisting with financial aid and scholarship applications. Three colleges – Elmhurst University, Hope College and Rochester University have formal partnerships with Green Halo promising to cover the students’ entire financial gap, if admitted. Most if not all recipients are among the first in their families to ever attend college. During this event they were interviewed virtually with college admissions officers, and some are given acceptances and merit aid. Very cool!
